#55 Spring Garden Perfection

Our Brides – Emma

“Don’t set any expectations or put any pressure on yourself or how you think you should feel when going through the process. Trying a dress on for the first time, through all the fittings and eventually on the day is a completely different feeling at each stage.”

THE LEAD UP

How did you two first meet?

At work.

What about the proposal? When, where, how?

Louis proposed on my birthday whilst we were staying at West Cawthorne in a cabin. We had been for a fantastic meal at the Star Inn and when we got back to the cabin Louis had arranged for the owners to place candles, flowers and champagne in the cabin. It was such a thoughtful and special moment.

THE DRESS

Did you have an idea of what you wanted when you first started looking for your wedding dress? And did you stick to it?

I had an idea however was open to trying on and exploring lots of options to get a feel for what I wanted. What I chose was completely opposite to what I expected!

How did you find the whole experience of searching for the right dress?

I enjoyed the trying on of the dresses as they were individually beautiful however I did start to get nervous when I realised I had to eventually choose one as I can be indecisive at times.

What was it about your dress that made it ‘the one’?

I kept going back to thinking about it! I tried it on quite early in the search and even after another two appointments I was comparing the dresses I tried on to mine. As I was torn between two completely different styles, the deciding factor was trying to picture the dress in my venue with the flowers and which one I could imagine suiting the vision best.

How did you feel once you’d made the big decision?

Daunting! I had about a week where I didn’t want to think about it or talk about it to anyone.

Do you have any top tips for other brides out there shopping for their bridal gown?

Don’t set any expectations or put any pressure on yourself or how you think you should feel when going through the process. Trying a dress on for the first time, through all the fittings and eventually on the day is a completely different feeling at each stage. Also enjoy the experience as much as you can and take videos in the dresses you try on to look back if you need too!

THE BIG DAY

Tell us more about your outfit on the day. How did you complete your look?

As my dress was more simple I knew that I wanted to have lace on my veil. Initially I wanted a single length veil but once we started playing with different styles and I tried my veil on (THE most incredible Jenny Yoo corded lace, cathedral length with a blusher) I knew it was right, it combined the more modern simple dress with the lace which I wanted to have as part of my look. Additionally Alexey made some bespoke detachable drop sleeves that brought some softness to the neckline during the day but then could be taken off for the evening! Lastly my shoes were from Paradox, not too high so I was able to wear them all night however I did need to cut the rhinestones off them due to them catching on the hem of the dress which was something I did not anticipate!

And your bridesmaids?

They were in individual choices. I set them a colour that fitted with the florals and that I wanted to keep them all in the same style of material, satin, then let them choose.

What do you remember about the morning?

Starting the day seeing the sunrise outside with a cup of tea to have a moment of calm before everything started happening. All the stresses of getting everything ready melted away in that moment.

Who did your hair and makeup?

The Style Sisters

Who took your wedding photos?

Paul & Nanda

Did you follow any traditions? Or was there anything unusual about the ceremony?

We weren’t sure we wanted to have a traditional cake cut however we decided on a Costco cake that I decorated the day before with fresh fruit and it ended up being one of the best parts of the day cutting it.

How did your dress feel when you were walking down the aisle?

Perfect!

THE MEMORIES

What are your favourite memories of your wedding day?

My first look with my dad, our confetti line, seeing the marquee for the first time, our first dance…every part of it!

What gave you the biggest laugh?

The best man speech!

What got the tears flowing?

For me, when my dad saw me in my dress for the first time. For Louis, when he saw me coming down the aisle.

ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE

If there was one piece of advice you could give to a new bride-to-be, what would it be?

Don’t have rhinestones on your shoes that could catch on the hem and get the second dress!

And last but not least, where is your wedding dress now?

I have sent it off to get cleaned and boxed along with my veil with Terrington Burchett.
