Our Top 5 Wedding Dress Trends for 2020

Back in November, the fashion gurus at Harpers Bazaar picked out their top bridal trends for 2020. Now we’ve picked out our top 5 favourites from their selections to point you in the right direction for your 2020 wedding dress shopping.

As always, we’d love your feedback as brides-to-be. Especially as it’s 2021 buying season soon!

Bridal Trend 1: The Bad-Ass Bride

This one is all about giving your bridal party some sass, and showing off that beautiful bad ass of yours!

We all want to be a bit edgy and bad-ass when it comes to fashion choices, but I’d be a touch shy of going all the way with this one on my wedding day. So may I suggest instead a plunging neckline balanced out with a long sleeve, or a split leg matched with high neck lace?

Check out Charlie Brear’s Nyika dress and our combo of Rembo Styling’s Forever Yours skirt with Jesus Peiro’s 6040 top, both taken from our shoot at the West Mill in Derbyshire last year.

Bridal Trend 2: Minimalism to the Max

We’ve definitely got you covered on this one. Charlie Brear reigns supreme when it comes to the clean-lined, bias-cut wedding dress. The beauty of bias cut? It’s all about the fall of the fabric and the way it shapes to your figure.

Charlie Brear’s Trine, for example, marries the signature bias cut with a clean high neckline.

Another option is Jesus Peiro if you’re looking for a minimalist wedding dress with a bit more structure to it. And you can always cut through the minimal look with a statement big bow! Channel your inner Meghan Markle and go for Jesus Peiro 161. You won’t regret it.

Bridal Trend 3: Feathery Frocks

One of the real eye-catchers when brides first step into our boutique is Eliza Jane Howell’s Cadiz feather skirt. EJH always keep it classy, and this skirt combines straight-cut ostrich feathers embroidered onto lace. Pair the feather skirt with a clean-lined top and you’ll add the perfect level of contrast to your bridal look.

Not feeling the feathers? Try the Bellotto beaded tassel skirt, also by Eliza Jane Howell. Or Charlie Brear’s Isere tassel skirt, as worn by our Sheffield saxophonist bride Cat!

Bridal Trend 4: Black Magic

There’s really nothing new about this trend in bridalwear, and the colour black will always have that timelessly chic quality.

Jesus Peiro really nailed the touch-of-black trend with their 2019 collection. And our recent real bride Angel shows how it’s done with a simple black belt around the Jesus Peiro 6000 dress.

Bridal Trend 5: Superhero Status

Capes as a bridal accessory have been around for a while now. But a new, more contemporary take has given them a bit of a revival. More Wonder Woman, less Bananaman.

Try the Charlie Brear Evelyn cape for the classic lace look. We may have a pearl dot cape on its way, too…
