#38 It was always going to be 921

Our Brides – Meisha

Sometimes you just know what your dream dress is, and that it’s going to be THE one. Meisha had seen Jesus Peiro’s 921 before visiting us with her Mum. The 921 sample fitted almost perfectly and after trying on that as the first dress, nothing else could compete!

Meisha, you knew from the moment you slipped into the dress that you’d be walking down the aisle in it. You looked incredible, it was always the one for you! Often choosing a dress can involve plenty of indecision, but we can safely say that the decision was easy.

THE LOW-DOWN

How would you sum up the style of your wedding?

We wanted it to be a bit like a family dinner party.

In terms of styling it was elegant and refined luxury. To be honest, Prestwold hall is already styled; we didn’t have to add much, which is what we wanted.

The music, food and drink were really important to us too! And of course having a damn good party!

Where did you tie the knot?

The ceremony was St Andrews Church, Prestwold. The wedding was Prestwold Hall.

And what was your wedding dress?

Jesus Peiro 921.

THE LEAD-UP

How did you two first meet?

We actually met on Tinder - would you believe it! After a few bumps into the road and one unfortunate ghosting situation by me (bride), we finally met and hit it off.

What about the proposal? When, where, how?

Wollaton Hall on my birthday!

It was during the third lockdown so we headed to Wollaton Hall for a walk. Halfway through I spotted a Prosecco van and suggested we got some to which Patrick said ‘no let's carry on walking’. Which, I was really baffled by, and perhaps a tad stroppy! Little did I know he had a ring in his pocket – so he eventually found a quiet spot and got down on one knee. Everything about the moment was perfect…and the ring, WOW! Needless to say, I said yes (and cried…a lot!).

THE DRESS

Did you have an idea of what you wanted when you first started looking for your wedding dress? And did you stick to it?

Yes, being in lockdown I did a lot of research. I think I saw the 921 very early on. I knew I wanted something that was somewhat conservative whilst contouring my frame – but didn’t expect that it would actually be the one.

How did you find the whole experience of searching for the right dress?

To be honest, it wasn’t too bad (I thought it was going to be super stressful). I went to 1 other shop before I came to Alexandra Anne and the 921 was the first dress I tried on.

What was it about your dress that made it ‘the one’?

My mum's reaction.

Jess’ reaction.

And the dress… yeah it felt right!

How did you feel once you’d made the big decision?

It felt a bit weird, to be honest, but good weird. It all happened a lot faster than I thought it would.

Do you have any top tips for other brides out there shopping for their bridal gown?

Make sure you feel good on the day.

Do your research.

Have an open mind.

Take people you trust.

Only try on dresses within your budget.

Don’t overthink it.

THE BIG DAY

Tell us more about your outfit on the day. How did you complete your look?

Gold missoma earings, gold shoes and a simple half up do.

It was a black tie do so I wanted everything super simple. Let the dress do all the talking!

And your bridesmaids?

Black Club L london dresses, again simple with a one shoulder bardot neckline and a slit.

What do you remember about the morning?

It was great! I think a lot of brides want to get married really early, but the getting ready part for me was a special part of the day. Our ceremony was at 1.30 because I wanted everyone to get a good night's sleep and with 6 bridesmaids plus my mum and my niece, there was a lot of us. So I just wanted it to be chilled and full of memories.

I remember banging my head – the ceilings were so low at the cottage we stayed in. I wasn’t the only one -having played netball for years a lot of my bridemaids including myself were quite tall so yes a few sore heads!

Running out of champagne…

I did a schedule for the morning and put 2 bridesmaids in charge so everything ran really smoothly.

Who did your hair and makeup?

Ghab Pro – Hair – she has been my hairdresser for years.

Laura Ndengeya bridal makeup.

Gracie Belle beauty for the bridesmaids hair and makeup.

Who took your wedding photos?

Kevin Mullins photography.

Did you follow any traditions? Or was there anything unusual about the ceremony?

Something borrowed, blue, old, new.

Didn’t see the groom before.

A garter.

We’re quite traditional in general!

A gospel choir during the service, which was normal for me and my family but less so for patricks – it was fab!!

How did your dress feel when you were walking down the aisle?

I’m not sure I was thinking about my dress in all honesty. That’s probably a good thing though!

THE MEMORIES

What are your favourite memories of your wedding day?

My dad seeing me for the first time.

Seeing Patrick for the first time.

Our entrance to the wedding reception.

Singing your love keeps lifting me higher in the church.

The speeches.

The morning with my mum and bridesmaids.

The band, OMG Distractions Band were INCREDIBLE had everyone on the dancefloor right until the end with acapella Wonderwall to end it all.

Everything!

What gave you the biggest laugh?

Speeches for sure. I’m not sure which ones but they were great. Also, my brother who was MC actually I think it was him. He was EXCELLENT!

What got the tears flowing?

I cried walking down the aisle…and when my dad came to the cottage. Thankfully I had my MUA there for touch-ups until evening guests arrived…boujee AF I know but if there's a day for it it's your wedding day!! My mum got everyone going in her speech too.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to a new bride-to-be, what would it be?

Enjoy the process.

Trust your suppliers.

Make sure you have a good plan, and if you’re not a good planner ensure you put someone in charge of the details – the details you and your groom care about that is.

A great piece of advice I saw online was not to worry about your dress getting dirty. We got married in January so it was inevitable my dress was going to get a bit muddy. My guests kept coming up to me and saying your dress has mud on it – and I did not care one bit! Just don’t get it muddy before your aisle walk – my MOH made sure of that.

And last but not least, where is your wedding dress now?

At the dry cleaners – I need to pick it up! I took it there the week after we got married, felt very final but get it there asap, especially if it’s a bit muddy like mine was.

We love our house music, a homage to our Ibiza days. Perfect lyrics and easy to dance to. The distractions performed it incredibly!
