#23 I’m Loving Angel Instead

Our Brides – Angel

When Angel and her mum first stepped into the shop, I could just tell this wedding was always going to be cool, stylish and a whole lotta fun.

As it happened, Angel came in for something completely different. She initially wanted something simple and slimline… But her final try-on was Jesus Peiro 6000, and she fell in love with that iconic ballgown skirt. (I mean, who wouldn’t?)

There was never going to be anything frilly about Angel on her big day. I adore her high-contrast finishing touches like the monotone velvet belt and her black watchband. Safe to say this was a black-and-white ball for the ages.

Congrats Angel and Harry! I’m off to practice my Robbie Williams lip-sync…

THE LOW-DOWN

How would you sum up the style of your wedding?

Country estate luxe was how I wanted the wedding to feel. I wanted it to feel fresh and modern, yet also have traditional elements.

Where and when did you tie the knot?

On 28th September 2019 at Norbury Church and Calwich Abbey Estate near Ashbourne.

And what was your wedding dress?

6000 by Jesus Peiro.

THE LEAD-UP

How did you two first meet?

We met on holiday 10 years ago and were friends for quite some time before we got together.

What about the proposal? When, where, how?

We were on a springtime picnic with our beloved dog Effie. It came as a total shock, but it was a beautiful sunny March Sunday. And I was glad I’d put some makeup on!

THE DRESS

Did you have an idea of what you wanted when you first started looking for your wedding dress? And did you stick to it?

Originally I thought I would go for something that was quite boho bridal, but I soon changed my mind and went for the exact opposite.

How did you find the whole experience of searching for the right dress?

I found it easy as I only went to one shop (Alexandra Anne) and tried on about 6 dresses. The Jesus Peiro 6000 dress was the last one I tried on but I was definitely drawn to it.

What was it about your dress that made it ‘the one’?

I loved the simplicity paired alongside the striking shape. I wanted to avoid lots of detailing as that isn’t very ‘me’, and to concentrate on the dress’s silhouette.

How did you feel once you’d made the big decision?

Relieved! Once you’ve found the dress it’s a great tick off the big wedding ‘to do’ list.

Do you have any top tips for other brides out there shopping for their bridal gown?

Be clear on what you don’t like to narrow the search down, and arrive with your hair and makeup done so you can visualise yourself better.

Also don’t take too many people with you or else you’ll never be able to make a decision!

THE BIG DAY

Tell us more about your outfit on the day. How did you complete your look?

I kept it quite simple with accessories: I wore shoes by Sophia Webster, a headband by Pretty Little Props, and a black Cartier Tank watch that my father gave me.

And your bridesmaids?

The bridesmaids wore forest green slip dresses and black cape jackets over the top.

What do you remember about the morning?

I was quite happy being pampered all morning and totally lost track of time…

Who did your hair and makeup?

The Town Spa at Sally Montague Hair in Ashbourne. We had all hair and makeup done in the studio so we had complete privacy and started the day with fresh fruit, croissants and champagne.

Who took your wedding photos?

Matt Brown did our wedding photography which was great. I was so happy to have him on board as I love his work and he was such a calming influence on the day.

Did you follow any traditions? Or was there anything unusual about the ceremony?

I wanted the speeches to be evenly split between men and women.

How did your dress feel when you were walking down the aisle?

I felt great and excited!

THE MEMORIES

What are your favourite memories of your wedding day?

Our arrival into the sperry tent… My favourite song ‘This will be an Everlasting Love’ by Natalie Cole was playing, with all the guests dancing to the music as we walked in.

Hair

We arrived at the Sally Montague Hair Town Spa in Ashbourne for a morning of pure pampering. We were quite a large group so we had the private room so all the bridesmaids could be together. Here we had champagne and croissants which started the day in style!

Flowers

Nadia Di Tullio Flowers (bouquets)
Table and sperry tent interior were fresh from around the grounds.

Stationery

Firecatcher (invitations)
Papier (order of service, table names, thank you cards)

Table plan theme

We wanted the inside of the tent to look fresh, wild and luxurious so we decided to go with olive trees for the tables to give the room some height.

Caterers

We were thrilled that the Red Olive Catering Company were available for our day and we felt safe in their hands from the very beginning. We had a variety of canapés, a 2-course meal and then they were in charge of the bar for the evening.

Later in the evening, the Warm and Toastie team came to refuel our guests with delicious cheese toasties.

First dance song

Robbie Williams – Angels
